Food Therapy

Our pets’ diets affect their overall health.  The proper balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins is essential to support healthy bodily functions.  Natural diets that consistent of whole foods (i.e. unprocessed) provide these nutrients in bioavailable forms that the body can utilize more readily.   Additionally, the thousands of natural compounds in whole foods (phytochemicals) work synergistically to support the body at a cellular level.  Conversely, highly processed diets, such as kibble, typically have lower quality essential nutrients which are less bioavailable and often contain synthetic vitamins.

Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine utilizes specific foods to help manage diseases and to maintain a healthy balance in the body.   Different foods have different “energetics” and therefore affect the body in different ways.   After performing a thorough evaluation of a pet, the holistic veterinarian can choose specific foods for the pet to help to heal the body and to support long term well-being.   Depending on the needs of the individual pet, appropriate foods can be added to the current diet or a completely new diet may be recommended.   A proper diet can help our pets enjoy healthier and happier lives.
